US engineer Omid Sadeghpour has designed and built a collapsible and driveable rooftop solar array to charge EVs while parked, unveiling Beta One in Nov last year.
Mounted on his Model Y Tesla and weighing less than 75 kg, it’s designed to be portable, fitting on any EV roof rack and within a standard parking spot to generate net-positive power.
Beta One can add up to 32 kilometers to an EV’s range per day using nine 175-watt solar panels and he’s now working on a more powerful Beta Two.
Omid co-founded DartSolar to commercialise the device at a target price of around £3,200 ($4k) and is seeking collaboration to enhance its design including automations.
