US startup Radia are aiming to build the world’s biggest aircraft, WindRunner, to carry giant onshore wind turbine blades directly to wind farms, landing on semi-prepared dirt or gravel landing strips.

The company says the plane – 356 feet long with a volume 12 times that of a 747 – can unlock cheaper onshore wind energy by removing the barriers to transporting giant turbine blades on road infrastructure.
