German startup EnerKite have successfully tested their kite wind turbine which is mounted on the top of a converted fire engine and flies in a figure of eight formation, pulling on ropes to generate power.
The kite gains access to more reliable higher altitude wind, delivering twice the annual yield of a conventional wind turbine of the same output and saves 90% on steel and concrete needed for tower and foundation.
