Israeli startup City Transformer have developed an ultra-small electric vehicle that changes width with the push of a button.
From Superinnovators 12/08/24
It features a unique design, allowing it to transform its width from one metre to 1.4 metres for versatility.
In narrow mode, it can easily navigate traffic jams and park in tight spaces, offering increased flexibility for city driving, but the top speed is limited to 45 kilometres per hour.
In wide mode, the vehicle achieves greater stability and handling, enabling a doubling of the top speed to 90 kilometres per hour.
Having unveiled a prototype named CT-1 in 2021, the company announced it would take reservations for a production model, CT-2, in 2023.
The CT-2 has a range of 120 to 180 kilometres on a single charge powered by a 15-kilowatt motor.
Additionally, the 2.5 metre-long EV accelerates from 0 to 50 kilometres per hour in five seconds.
City Transformer confirm the CT-2 comes equipped with disc brakes, air conditioning, and Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS).
Like the CT-2, the CT-1 also had a top speed of 90 kilometres per hour and a similar range of 120 to 180 kilometres.
While the CT-1 laid the groundwork, the startup say the CT-2 will offer enhanced features and production-ready specifications for consumers, although the exact look of CT-2 has yet to be revealed.
A limited production run of the First Edition CT-2 comes with a purchase price of €16,000 ($17,515).
Interested buyers can pre-order the CT-2 for a refundable fee of €150 ($164) through the company’s website.
According to the startup, production of the CT-2 is planned for 2024, with reservations already being accepted.
The CT-2 aims to redefine city transportation, offering a cleaner, smarter, and more adaptable solution for urban environments.
Another variable width EV prototype built by Polish startup Triggo was unveiled at CES in 2022, but there have been no updates on a production model since then.
