Engineering innovators at Aquapark Reda, Poland and German designers Wiegand.Waterides built a spinning waterslide that creates moments of weightlessness.

The AquaSpinner slide opened in 2020 and was awarded 1st place for Europe’s Best New Water Slide as part of the European Star Awards 2020.

How does it work?

The slide is a combination of a Ferris wheel and a water slide that gives riders a unique experience – sudden G-forces, backward movements, pendulum action and moments of weightlessness.

These ‘zero gravity’ moments occur when the force of gravity is exactly balanced by the combination of the movement of the raft and rotation of the slide.

The structure is 27.7m tall and weighs in at 160 tons, making it the largest of its kind in the world. Although the first rotating slide was opened in China in 2018.

It rotates almost twice a minute and can accommodate 3 rafts simultaneously translating into 470 riders per hour.

They reach speeds of up to 40km/h as they splash through the 140m-long 2.7m diameter tube.

What are the potential benefits?

The wacky and unique nature of the AquaSpinner helps to draw visitors to the park. Especially waterslide enthusiasts eager to try out the latest innovation.

Waterparks such as Aquapark Reda can help boost mental health, combining the benefits of water-based exercise and social interaction with family and friends.

A great way to de-stress!
