Chinese company Tecno have introduced a new tri-fold smartphone concept, the Phantom Ultimate 2, which can expand into a 10-inch tablet.

Unveiled via a video demo this week, the Phantom Ultimate 2 features a unique three-way folding mechanism, enabling the device to transition smoothly between a 6.48-inch ‘candybar’ smartphone and a 4:3 ratio tablet.
The Phantom Ultimate 2’s design incorporates an ultra-thin OLED display (3K LTPO 392 PPI), allowing it to maintain an 11 mm thickness when in folded mode.
According to the company, their concept offers a seamless experience for users, with the company emphasising its potential for multitasking, enhanced viewing experiences and consolidation of devices.
The device includes advanced hinge technology that ensures durability and a fluid folding process, reducing stress on the display over time.

And the Phantom Ultimate 2 also supports fast charging and high-speed 5G connectivity.
Tecno have not confirmed a release date or detailed specifications for the Phantom Ultimate 2, but the footage suggests they are serious about entering the foldable market.
Meanwhile, Huawei Consumer Business Group CEO, Yu Chengdong (also known as Richard Yu), announced earlier this month that a tri-fold Huawei device will be available to buy in September.
No footage has been released but unofficial images of Yu appearing to use a tri-fold model have emerged online.
Elsewhere, there are rumours that TCL CSOT, Honor and Samsung are all working on tri-fold phones, but there has been no official confirmation or leaked footage.
