US-based Oru Kayak (f. 2012), renowned for its origami-inspired folding kayaks, crowdfunded the Oru Lake model in 2022, a craft that unfolds from a portable box into a sleek, lightweight kayak in under a minute.
This base model is priced at £394 ($499), with 7.7kg weight, and 113kg capacity, and is designed to enhance accessibility to outdoor adventures.
The company has successfully delivered on six crowdfunding campaigns since its inception, with the 2022 campaign for the Lake model raising £1.8m ($2.25m).
Earlier this month, Oru Kayak released an electric motor accessory in collaboration with Bixpy, priced at £1,025 ($1,299), which allows up to 12 hours of operation at slower speeds.
