Dynamic Drives, a German startup, have introduced the chain-less Intelectra e-cargo bike, designed for urban mobility and logistics applications.
From Superinnovators 15/08/24
The Intelectra Cargo utilises a unique pedal-by-wire system, where rider exertion is translated into electricity that drives the motors, with extra help from the battery.
This system, part of the Intelectric Serial Hybrid System (iSHS), eliminates the greasy chains, reducing wear and keeping your trousers clean.
Its four wheels also offer increased stability and safety, especially in congested city environments.
Dynamic Drives say the open seat position at the front allows for quicker entry and exit, saving time during frequent stops and delivery drivers in a hurry.
The large and XL variants can carry up to six and 12 Euro crates respectively.
And the large model is 2.73 metres long, while the XL model extends to 3.13 metres with both able to carry a payload of up to 450 kg, including the rider’s weight.
Security of the goods is boosted through an RFID fob system, where the user can quickly activate the bike or disable it to prevent theft.
The bike tops out at 25 km/h, fast enough to keep up with city traffic but still safe for bike lanes.
The 1,400 Wh battery system is interchangeable and there’s an option to add a second, with a full charge taking just 1.5 hours under optimal conditions.
This battery setup allows the bike to achieve a range of approximately 93 km, depending on load and terrain.
The Intelectra Cargo is currently available for order with prices starting at €9,250 (approx. $10,080), deliveries expected by autumn and test rides scheduled to start this summer.
And if you buy one and you live in a hilly city, the bike is also designed to handle steep inclines, with the propulsion system providing strong support at low pedalling cadences.
The company offer service packages, including a premium option that covers maintenance, and three accessories are also available: weather protection tent, rear bench seat, and charging cover.
Dynamic Drives highlight that no driver’s license or insurance is required to operate their e-cargo bike, reducing barriers and costs.
