Smart windows displaying dynamic information have been installed on Chongqing Metro trains with first video of the innovation shared on social media by mychinatrip in Dec 2023.

Information includes station layouts, metro maps, and tourist attraction images with some windows also having touch screen interactivity.

The operators haven’t released any info on the displays but mychinatrip said the video was of Line 2 (famous for passing through a building), although the red handles indicate Line 1 due to colour coded nature of the Chongqing Metro.

The latest extension to Line 4 in 2022 took Chongqing to seventh place in the world’s largest metros with 435 route-km, pushing London Underground (405 route-km) out of the top 10 for the first time, according to Railway Gazette’s analysis.
