In the heartland of America’s grain storage country, a revolution is underway.

The Grain Weevil, an advanced grain bin safety and management robot, is transforming the way farmers interact with their grain bins.

Born out of a challenge to create a robot that would eliminate the need for farmers to enter grain bins, the Grain Weevil is a testament to the power of technology in enhancing safety and efficiency in agriculture.

Grain bins have long been recognised as hot, dirty, and dangerous workplaces.

Farmers risk falls, entrapments, auger entanglements, and long-term conditions such as Farmer’s Lung every time they step into these structures.

With nearly 450,000 American farms equipped with grain bins, these risks are taken over six million times a year.

The tragic reality is that nearly 25 entrapment deaths occur annually, with one out of every five grain bin accidents involving teenage boys.

Enter the Grain Weevil, a robot designed to directly engage with the surface of the grain.

This innovative solution keeps farmers out of the bin by levelling, breaking crusts, conducting inspections, and feeding grain into extraction augers.

The Grain Weevil not only reduces the need for grain bin entry, but it also lowers long-term risks, prevents falls and entanglements, and avoids entrapments.

But the Grain Weevil is more than just a safety device.

It’s a tool for workflow efficiency and active optimisation.

It functions as a spreader, maximises airflow uniformity, reduces labour costs, and minimises loss due to spoilage.

Farmers can now manage and map their grain while loading and ensure efficient feeding of augers while unloading.

The result is a significant boost in productivity and the ability to store grain longer with confidence.

The Nebraska Business Development Center (NBDC) recognised the company as the “Innovation Business of the Year” at their annual Business Awards earlier this year.

The NBDC awards, which celebrate business success through job creation, sustainability, sales growth, successful government contracting, and innovation in product or service offerings, are a testament to the Grain Weevil’s transformative impact on the agricultural industry.

The company’s recognition underscores the significant role it plays in enhancing safety and efficiency in grain storage.

The mission of the Grain Weevil is simple yet powerful: “No Boots in the Grain.”

This innovative robot is a game-changer, impacting not just the quality of stored grain, but also the quality of farmer well-being.

It’s a testament to how technology can transform traditional industries, making them safer, more efficient, and more profitable.

The Grain Weevil is not just a robot; it’s a beacon of progress in agricultural technology.
